Specially designed to free craftsmen from fossil fuels, the Whitlox Wood-Fired Blacksmith Forge is made for rugged efficiency using easy to get wood fuel. Burn it raw or make charcoal first.
- The trench shape provides the necessary fire depth for wood to burn down to charcoal and concentrate at the draft line.
- Twelve gauge steel construction for the ideal rigidity and longevity.
- The firebed is lined with half inch thick kaowool mineral fiber batting to insulate and protect the body, keeping both the forge body and the shop cooler. Then a lining of firebricks is installed for durability and heat retention, making a smokeless fire easy to maintain.
- A movable divider slides and clamps in any location, allowing you to concentrate the fire in just the amount of space needed for your project. If you need to heat the middle of a long bar, just grab tongs and remove the brick in front of the divider. The back of the forge is cut away to allow even a very long bar to lay across the fire.
- The adjustable tuyere is one of the most innovative features of the fullsize forge. The tube within a tube design allows you to dial up just the number of holes you want open, for perfect control of air flow. (See video below)
Many hours of use by many blacksmiths have proven the fullsize Wood-Fired Blacksmith Forge works: you can forge steel with wood fuel, even without making charcoal first.
You can choose one of our two blowers to go with your Wood-Fired Forge: a light duty electric fan (50 cfm) with a stomp switch that latches on/off, or the Zomax hand-crank blower. Either of them will come with a mounting bracket, duct and hardware when ordered with the forge from this page.
If a sturdy portable blacksmith forge is necessary for your shop situation, consider adding the stand. The forge stand is 26" tall, of welded construction, and has two rubber wheels to make it easy to roll out or put away. This option is highly recommended.
Add a hood! While the forge works great open, a hood adds comfort and convenience as it keeps smoke and sparks away from your work area. It is constructed of 16 gauge steel with a 6" diameter 24" stovepipe.

Great forge, I’ve been using it almost every day since I got it. Heat management is easy to figure out and pretty precise.
It is built very well with basic but mechanically sound construction. I used it for a while and it sure does a good job.
It arrived with everything fire bricks were all cracked but salvageable I can use some furnace cement to fix them, few scuffs and scrapes on the metal but that's nothing it'll happen shipping from United States to Canada is a detriment but I love this product so much I can't wait to fire it up

Bought this for my son for Christmas 2years ago. Just now getting around to writing a review. Had the normal issue of broken fire brick. Which the company without hesitation. Replaced them very promptly. After that came the flex hose that connected the blower. This is nothing more than a cheaply made dryer vent hose. Which ripped as we tried to stretch it out to connect to the blower motor. Was still able to salvage enough of it to make it work. Was not pleased with the amount of air that it produced. Took WAY to long to produce enough heat to begin forging.
The next thing was the plastic wheels that came with it! And no handle to speak of to be able to move it around. The wheels seam to be the kind you would find on push mower from the 70’s.
Now to the blower itself! The blower is nothing more than a ceiling fan flipped upside down! And it came with hose clamps to attach the flex hose.
So after one issue after another. I decide to improve on poorly executed design. I have since replaced the blower with a Dayton blower, replaced the flex hose with a bent 1 1/2 pipe. Welded to the back of the forge with a mounting plate for the blower.
Replace the playschool tires with swivel casters up front and 8” tires in the back along with an axle. A handle up front so you had something to grab to move it.
After I did all these things. My son now has a true wood forge that’s totally functional.
For the money I spent on this forge with the lid and electric blower. I can’t believe the product that was sent to me!!! I really wish I could post pictures of what the forge looks like now!!
Keith--thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. In spite of your points of frustration, I am glad to hear you are satisfied with what you've worked out for your son. These sorts of refinements to your tools, making it your own, are very much in the spirit of blacksmithing and we encourage each smith to make any alterations to help the forge fit their plans. The flexible air duct that ships standard is indeed the minimum necessary for carrying air. Other customers have had custom air ducts made from auto exhaust tubing or found other more heavy duty solutions. Most find the ducting functions fine. The electric blower we ship is exactly what is pictured on our website. It is meant to be mounted right side up as shown in assembly instructions, but function should not have been harmed by it being upside down. I am sorry to hear you had a hard time getting the forge up to heat with it. It can actually be a matter of having too much blast and there are solutions for that (like dialing down the openings, or changing where your stock is in the fire in relation to the blast.) The two 6' solid core tires were chosen to provide stability, rather than having all four wheels able to move in a manner that could pose a risk while the 100+ pound forge is full of fire. Sounds like mobility needs trump stability in your shop. A handle is a great idea! We have found that the work rest extension works for that purpose, but it would be more comfortable to have a handle if your son needed to move the forge around a great deal. Bolts for the wheels are missing.
Never received the fire bricks for the forge. I have emailed and called but received no return contact. Not happy
I love it great forge good even heat . I was amazed of how small of fire I could use it works very good when quenching and tempering my knives
Everything is here and it looks like it was worth the wait!
I just need to piece things together.
